Custom Work: Tie Shirt

1. Undoing all the stitching that holds the original tie together, then lying flat to prepare for custom textile
2. Sewing all tie fabric together in a color blocked pattern to give the illusion of cohesion
3. Taking client’s measurement to construct a paper pattern, then cutting out the tie fabric
4. In completing the garment, the client has a fully customized shirt with sentimental and sustainable values sewn directly into it. In doing so this process breathes new life into forgotten or discarded items.
Sourced old ties that previously belonged to the client’s father to create a handmade garment. He wanted to repurpose the ties into a more sustainable and functional use.
